The Alberta oil sands is not immune from the technology revolution reshaping the global economy. But AI and other advanced tech is likely to create a world in which greater export of Canadian oil doesn't create more jobs for Canadians. Production goes up, exports rise, but employment falls. That's the lesson from the Imperial Oil layoffs.
