Trump's FBI recently executed search warrants on John Bolton's home and office. Trump frequently has lashed out against Bolton. Bolton is also on FBI Director Kash Patel's "deep state list" or what the Washington Post calls an "enemies list." 

If Bolton is criminally indicted, he will have a robust vindictive prosecution defense that could result in the case against him being dismissed.
